Why Get Counted?

Every 10 years, the federal government conducts a count of every citizen in the United States as required by the U.S. Constitution. The data collected is used to allocate resources to all Americans and is a vital part of our democracy.

How To Get Counted

The instructions on how respond online or by phone will be delivered by invitation in the mail by March 12, 2020. Each invitation will have a unique number so that each household will not be counted twice.

Tribal Enumerators

Several enumerators or Census counters will be hired from your community before Census Day on April 1, 2020. All will be trained on how to best help each person in his or her community be counted. The Census Bureau is hiring in New Mexico!

Who We Are

The New Mexico Native Census Coalition is a collaboration of tribal organizations, businesses and nonprofits working toward an accurate 2020 U.S. Census Count.

In 2019, NAVA received funding from the NM Counts 2020 Funder Collaborative to help solidify efforts in an accurate Census count of Native people in the state.
